Manifesto

We are 6 students currently studying Graphic Design in our 2nd year at the University of Cumbria. We are currently workingon a group project to research into Postmodernism.

The postmodern began after the industrial revolution, people began to explore the human condition through art, literature and technology. Postmodernity is a concept that is not easily defined as many of us have different views concerning it. We, as a group, believe that postmodernity can change depending on the individuals opinion, that what is postmodern for one person may not be for another and what is postmodern today may become old news tomorrow. It is something that is ever changing as the human race is ever changing. We believe that self-awareness is a big feature of the postmodern, people began to question why we do what we do as humans and question how to better ourselves, exploring the possibility that there is no universal truth or or theory.

We believe that there is no originality left in postmodernism, everything that is happening now is being influenced by the past, whether that is conscious or not. It's unavoidable when we live in an age were we are bombarded by information and images from an early age and where these texts are so easily accessible. We believe that the postmodern does not stand on it's own two feet as a concept but stands as a contrast and without something to contrast to, it looses all meaning and use.

We hope to express these ideas through this blog and find sources which can back up our individual opinions, we do not all share the exact same opinion and would like to explore all of our different views and opinions on the subject.
